§ 17041 Employee Housing Standards Fees

Key Takeaways

  • •Rules for worker housing must be safe and fair, considering things like weather and location.
  • •The government can charge fees for building and running worker housing, but they can also reduce or waive these fees in certain cases.
  • •If you build or fix up worker housing without being forced by the government, you might not have to pay fees for the first three years.

Example

A farm builds new houses for its workers.

The farm must follow safety rules for the houses, like making sure they are strong enough for the local weather. If the farm builds these houses on its own (not because the government told them to), they might not have to pay fees for the first three years.

The department may establish a schedule of fees for the construction and operation of employee housing wherever the department is the enforcing agency. (b)  The department may provide for the waiver or reduction of fees during construction or substantial rehabilitation that is not the result of a notice by an enforcement agency where funding is received from a public entity. The department shall provide for a waiver of the fees for an operating permit during the first three years of operation after new construction or substantial rehabilitation of employee housing that is not the result of a notice by an enforcement agency.
