§ 13887 District Election Expenses

Key Takeaways

  • •If people vote to create a new district and it fails, the county pays for the election.
  • •If people vote to create a new district and it passes, the new district has to pay the county back with its first money.
  • •For any other elections in the district, the district has to pay for them.

Example

A town votes on whether to create a new school district.

If the vote fails, the county pays for the election. If the vote passes, the new school district must pay the county back using the first money it collects, like from taxes. Any future elections for the school district, like voting for school board members, are paid for by the school district, not the county.
