§ 128737 Ambulatory Surgery Data Reporting

Key Takeaways

  • •Hospitals and surgery clinics must record and report specific patient details for every surgery, like age, race, and what was done.
  • •Patient info like social security numbers must be kept private and can't be shared publicly.
  • •If a hospital or clinic sends this info to the state, they can't be sued for how it's used later.
  • •These rules started in 2004 and follow national standards for reporting.

Example

If you go to a clinic to get your tonsils removed, the clinic has to write down details like your birthday, what surgery you had, and how you'll pay.

The clinic must send this info to the state, but they can't share your name or social security number with anyone else. If they send it correctly, they won’t get in trouble later.
