§ 114089 Prepackaged Food Labeling

Key Takeaways

  • •All packaged food must have a label with clear info like what's inside, who made it, and how much you get.
  • •If the food has more than one ingredient, the label must list them from the biggest amount to the smallest.
  • •Food sold in bulk (like bins at a store) must have a label or sign showing what it is, what's in it, and nutrition facts.
  • •The label must also say where the food comes from, like the company that made or packed it.

Example

You buy a bag of cookies at the store.

The bag must have a label showing the name of the cookies, a list of ingredients (like flour, sugar, chocolate chips), how many cookies are inside, and the name of the company that made them. If the cookies have fake flavors or colors, that must be on the label too.
