§ 110360 Package Size Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can set rules for how big a package looks for food, medicine, or makeup.
  • •These rules help show how much is really inside the package.
  • •The rules don’t stop companies from making packages any size or shape they want.

Example

You buy a box of cereal that looks really big.

The government can make rules so the box has to show clearly how much cereal is actually inside, even if the box is mostly empty. But the cereal company can still make the box as big or small as they want.

§ 110360 Package Size Standards

The department may establish and define standards for the characterization of the size of a package that encloses any food, drug, device, or cosmetic, that may be used to supplement the label statement of net quantity of contents of packages containing the commodity. This section, however, does not authorize any limitation on the size, shape, weight, dimension, or number of packages that may be used to enclose any food, drug, device, or cosmetic. (Added by Stats. 1995, Ch. 415, Sec. 6. Effective January 1, 1996.)
