§ 103225 Correcting Vital Records

This law lets you fix mistakes on birth, death, marriage, or fetal death certificates. You need to swear the changes are correct and have someone else who knows the truth back you up.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can fix typos or wrong info on important certificates
  • •You must swear the fix is right
  • •Another person who knows the truth must also swear it's right
  • •This works for birth, death, marriage, and fetal death papers

Example

Your birth certificate says your name is 'Jon' but it's really 'John'.

You can fill out a paper saying it's wrong, get someone like your mom to sign too, and send it in to fix the mistake.
