§ 102766 Parentage Declaration Birth Certificate

This law lets a parent add their name to a child's birth certificate when they file a voluntary parentage form with the child support agency and pay the fee.

Key Takeaways

  • •A voluntary parentage declaration can be filed with the child support services department.
  • •If the application is accepted and the fee is paid, the state can issue a new birth certificate with the parent's name.
  • •This only applies when the original birth record is already on file with the state.

Example

A mother and father sign a voluntary parentage form at the local child support office after the baby is born.

They then send an application to the State Registrar, pay the required fee, and the state creates a new birth certificate that includes the father's name.
