§ 101410 City Payment For County Services

This law says the city has to pay the county back for all the money the county spends doing work for the city, and the payment amount is based on the best estimate of those costs.

Key Takeaways

  • •The city must pay the county for the full cost of services it gets.
  • •Payment goes to the county treasurer on dates set in the contract.
  • •The amount is the best estimate of the county’s actual expenses.

Example

The city hires the county to enforce a parking rule and the county spends $12,500 on officers, equipment, and paperwork.

Because of this law, the city must pay the county $12,500 (or as close as they can figure out) to the county treasurer on the date the contract says.

How to Calculate

Total Cost = Σ (all expenses the county incurs for the services)

  1. List every expense the county has for the service (payroll, equipment, supplies, etc.).
  2. Add up all those expenses to get a total number.
  3. Use that total as the amount the city will pay the county, rounding if needed.

County enforces a noise ordinance and has these costs: $4,000 for officer overtime, $2,000 for equipment rental, $1,500 for paperwork, and $500 for travel.

Result: Total Cost = 4000 + 2000 + 1500 + 500 = $8,000. The city would pay the county $8,000.
