§ 72304 Bail Authority For Traffic Cases

Key Takeaways

  • •Some court officials (like commissioners or traffic referees) can decide bail amounts for small driving crimes.
  • •They can also let people go if they follow bail rules.
  • •This doesn’t take away any other powers these officials already have.

Example

If you get pulled over for speeding and the cop gives you a ticket to go to court later.

The traffic referee at court can decide how much money you have to pay (bail) to avoid jail while waiting for your court date. They can also let you go if you promise to come back for your hearing.
