§ 72301 Court Officer Bail Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •Court staff or police must always be available, even at night or on holidays, to handle bail for small crimes.
  • •Bail amounts are set by a list approved by judges, not random numbers.
  • •If there's a warrant, the bail amount is what the warrant says.
  • •You can pay bail with cash, special bonds, or an insurance company's promise.

Example

Someone gets arrested for shoplifting on a Sunday night.

Even though it's late and a weekend, a police officer will be there to set bail using the pre-approved list. The person can pay the set amount with cash or a bond to get out of jail until their court date.
