§ 57117 City Consolidation Election Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If cities are merging, the plan must include how to pick new leaders for the combined city.
  • •People voting in the election can suggest what the new city should be called.
  • •This rule is part of the process when cities decide to join together.

Example

Two small towns, Sunnyville and Brightown, want to become one bigger town.

The plan to merge them must say how they’ll choose the new mayor and other leaders. Also, when people vote on the merge, they can say if they want the new town to be called 'Sunnybright' or something else.
