§ 56770 Disincorporation Approval Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •A city can't just disappear or stop being a city unless the government checks a bunch of things first.
  • •The government has to make sure the city's services (like trash pickup or police) will still work well after the city is gone.
  • •They look at money stuff to make sure the city isn't leaving a big mess behind.
  • •They listen to what people say in meetings before making a decision.

Example

Imagine a small town wants to stop being a town and become part of the county instead.

The government has to check if the town's services, like schools or fire trucks, will still work okay. They also look at the town's money to make sure it's not broke. If everything looks good, they might say yes.

(b) The commission has considered the service reviews of municipal services and spheres of influence of the affected local agencies, and the disincorporation will address the necessary changes to those spheres of influence, if any. (c) It has reviewed the comprehensive fiscal analysis prepared pursuant to Section 56804. (d) It has reviewed the executive officer’s report and recommendation prepared pursuant to Section 56665, and the oral or written testimony presented at its public hearing.
