§ 56100 Local Government Reorganization Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •This law says how cities and districts can change their boundaries or organization.
  • •There’s only one way to do it—follow the rules in this law, no shortcuts.
  • •If there’s a conflict with another law, this one wins.
  • •A special group (the commission) is in charge of making sure the rules are followed.

Example

A small town wants to become part of a bigger nearby city.

They can’t just decide to join—they have to follow the steps in this law. The commission will check if they’re doing it right. If another law says something different, they still have to follow this one.
