§ 53197 District Assessment Collection Funds

Key Takeaways

  • •The local government can ask the county to collect extra fees for them. The county can take a small cut for doing the work.
  • •If the county collects the money, they send the rest to the local government after taking their costs.
  • •The local government must create a special fund for this money. All the money collected, including fines, goes into this fund.
  • •The money in the fund can only be spent the way the local government decided, following any agreements they made.

Example

A small town wants to charge a fee for better roads but doesn’t want to collect it themselves.

The town asks the county to collect the fee. The county takes a little bit of the money for their trouble and sends the rest to the town. The town puts all this money in a special fund and can only use it for road repairs, just like they promised.
