§ 32324 Member Contribution Rate Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •This law says how much money gets taken from a worker's paycheck for their retirement fund.
  • •Only part of the worker's paycheck is used to figure out how much to take. This includes their salary plus the value of any extra stuff they get, like free housing or meals.
  • •The amount taken out can't be more than a certain limit set by another law (Section 32322).
  • •The money is taken out of the first paycheck each month and sent to the county treasurer for the worker's retirement account.

Example

Imagine a firefighter who gets a salary plus free housing from the city.

The city will calculate how much the free housing is worth and add it to the firefighter's salary. Then, they take a small part of that total amount for the firefighter's retirement fund. This happens every month from the first paycheck.
