§ 29820 Warrant Payment Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •When someone shows a warrant (like a check) to get paid, the treasurer must pay it if there's money available.
  • •The treasurer can mark the warrant as 'Paid' with a stamp or hole punch and add the date.
  • •The treasurer can also pay using methods approved by the governing board, like normal check practices.
  • •The treasurer can choose to pay at their office or at a bank where the county keeps money.

Example

You work for the city and get a paper check for your pay. You take it to the city treasurer to cash it.

The treasurer checks if there's money in the city's account. If there is, they can stamp your check with 'Paid' and the date, or pay you using normal check rules. They might pay you right at their office or tell you to go to the city's bank.
