§ 26406 Public Works Contract Requirements

• •The board can buy land or start projects if they think it's a good idea.
• •If a project or repair costs more than $2,500, they must hire someone else to do the work.
• •The hiring must follow special rules in the Government Code (Sections 25451 to 25455), or the deal won’t count.

A school wants to build a new playground that will cost $5,000.

Because the playground costs more than $2,500, the school can’t just build it themselves. They have to hire a company to do the work, and they must follow the rules in the Government Code to pick that company. If they don’t follow the rules, the deal is canceled.
