§ 26306 Public Works Contract Requirements

• •The board can buy land or start projects if they think it's a good idea.
• •If a project or repair costs more than $2,500, they must hire someone else to do the work.
• •The hiring must follow special rules in the Government Code (Sections 25451 to 25455).
• •If they don’t follow these rules, the contract is invalid.

A school wants to build a new playground that costs $5,000.

The school board can’t just build it themselves. They have to hire a company to do the work and follow the rules in the Government Code. If they don’t, the deal is canceled.
