§ 23274 Boundary Change Ballot Pamphlet

Key Takeaways

  • •Before an election about changing boundaries (like city or district lines), officials must send a pamphlet to every voter in the area that would be affected.
  • •The pamphlet must include: a fair explanation of the change, money effects, rules of the change, reasons to support it, and reasons to oppose it.
  • •The pamphlet must be mailed at least 10 days before the election.

Example

Your town wants to move its border to include a nearby neighborhood. This means the neighborhood would be part of your town’s rules and taxes.

Before the vote, your town must send you a pamphlet explaining what the border change means. It will tell you how it might affect your taxes, why some people like the idea, and why others don’t. You’ll get this pamphlet at least 10 days before you vote.
