§ 21409 Industrial Disability Retirement Benefits

Key Takeaways

  • •If a state worker gets hurt on the job and can't work anymore, they get money to help them live.
  • •The money they get is half of what they used to make at their job.
  • •If they have extra money saved up from their job, they can use that to get even more money every month.
  • •If they could get more money by retiring normally (instead of because they got hurt), they’ll get the bigger amount instead.

Example

A school janitor hurts his back lifting heavy boxes and can’t work anymore.

The janitor will get half of his usual paycheck every month. If he had extra savings from his job, he can use that to get a little more money. If retiring normally would give him more money, he’ll get that instead.
