§ 20930 University Service Credit Rules

• •If you worked at the university before joining the retirement plan, you get credit for that time.
• •This credit helps you get better retirement benefits later.
• •The rule started in 1997.

A teacher worked at the university for 5 years before joining the retirement plan.

Those 5 years will count toward their retirement benefits, even though they weren’t in the plan yet.
