§ 20821 Retirement Fund Contribution Adjustment

Key Takeaways

  • •If a school or agency didn't pay enough into the retirement fund for part-time workers (less than 20 hours a week) before a certain law was passed, they now have to pay more.
  • •The extra money they pay is decided by the board and is based on how much those workers were paid.
  • •The extra payment also covers the cost of the board figuring out how much more needs to be paid.

Example

A school had a part-time janitor working 15 hours a week before 1996. They didn't pay enough into his retirement fund.

Now, the school has to pay extra money into the janitor's retirement fund. The amount is based on what the janitor was paid, and it also includes a little extra to cover the cost of calculating this.
