§ 20806 Employer Contributions For Liabilities

Key Takeaways

  • •Employers must pay extra money to cover old debts for employee benefits.
  • •The amount they pay is decided by a board, not the employers themselves.
  • •This includes money for special benefits like those for local safety workers (like police or firefighters).
  • •The payments can be set up in a way that the board agrees to.

Example

A school district has old debts for teacher retirement benefits they didn’t fully pay in the past.

The school district must now pay extra money, decided by a board, to cover those old debts. This is on top of their normal payments for current benefits.
