§ 20486 Local System Asset Transfer

Key Takeaways

  • •If a local retirement system joins a bigger one, they can move the money and records of people who switched to the new system.
  • •The time someone worked under the old system still counts in the new system.
  • •This rule only applies if the local agency agrees to it in their contract with the bigger system.

Example

A small town’s retirement plan joins the state’s bigger retirement plan.

The town can move the money and work records of its employees to the state’s plan. The years those employees worked for the town will still count toward their state retirement.
