§ 17208 Warrant Cancellation Notification

Key Takeaways

  • •If a registered warrant (a type of payment order) is canceled, the Controller must tell the Treasurer.
  • •The Controller has to write down specific details about the canceled warrant, like its number, date, amount, who it was for, which fund it came from, and when it was canceled.
  • •This is just about keeping records straight when a payment order is canceled.

Example

Imagine the government writes a check to pay for new school books, but then realizes the order was wrong and cancels the check.

The person in charge of money (Controller) has to send a note to the Treasurer saying, 'Hey, we canceled check #123 for $500 meant for the school. It was from the education fund, and we canceled it today.'
