§ 17004 Warrant Mailing And Receipt

Key Takeaways

  • •The government can send your payment check to your last known address unless you tell them a different one.
  • •Signing the check means you got it, and no extra proof is needed.
  • •This rule has been around since 1945.

Example

You moved to a new house but forgot to tell the government your new address.

The government will send your tax refund check to your old address. If you sign the check when you get it, that’s enough to show you received it.
