§ 16381 General Cash Revolving Fund Transfers

Key Takeaways

  • •The state has a special pot of money called the General Cash Revolving Fund.
  • •If the main state money pot (General Fund) doesn’t have enough cash to pay for things the law says must be paid, the Governor can move money from other state money pots into this special fund.
  • •The Governor must write down that there isn’t enough money and can stop this anytime by writing it down again.

Example

Imagine the state needs to pay teachers, but the main bank account is empty.

The Governor can take money from other state accounts, like a fund for parks, and put it into the special fund to pay the teachers until more money comes in.
