§ 14030 Statewide Transportation Coordination

Key Takeaways

  • •The department helps plan and improve all types of transportation in California, like roads, trains, and buses.
  • •They work with cities and other groups to make sure transportation is well-organized and gets enough money, especially from the federal government.
  • •They build and take care of transportation systems that the state is responsible for, but they can’t manage airports or ports unless the state legislature says it’s okay.
  • •They also study transportation problems and make sure housing and transportation plans work well together.

Example

A city wants to build a new bus system to reduce traffic.

The department would help the city plan the bus routes, find money (like federal funds) to pay for it, and make sure the buses connect well with roads and trains. They’d also check if the bus system fits with where people live so it’s useful for everyone.
