§ 12961 Class Action Complaint Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a bad thing at work happens to many people the same way, one person can complain for the whole group.
  • •The boss at work can look into the complaint as a big group problem.
  • •If the boss thinks it's a big deal, they can try to fix it for everyone together.
  • •The boss has to tell everyone involved in writing within one year if they're treating it as a group problem.

Example

A bunch of workers at a factory aren't getting their breaks like the law says.

One worker can complain for all of them. The boss will check if it's happening to everyone. If it is, the boss will try to fix it for the whole group and tell the factory owner in writing within a year.
