§ 12729 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or doesn't work, the rest of the law still applies.
  • •The law is designed so that if one piece is removed, the other pieces can still be used.
  • •This rule helps keep the law working even if a small part has problems.

Example

Imagine a law that says you can't park in certain spots and also can't speed in a school zone.

If a judge says the part about parking is unfair, the rule about not speeding near schools still counts. The law doesn't just disappear because one part didn't work.
