§ 10291 Electronic Legal Material Definitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines words used in other laws, like what 'electronic' and 'legal material' mean.
  • •It says who can officially share California's laws online (the Legislative Counsel Bureau).
  • •'Publish' means making laws available for everyone to see, like putting them on a website.
  • •A 'record' is any information you can read or see, like a paper document or a file on a computer.

Example

You look up California's laws on the official government website.

The website is run by the Legislative Counsel Bureau, which is the only official place to publish these laws online. The laws you see there are 'legal material,' and they are 'published' so everyone can read them.
