§ 10294 Electronic Legal Record Authentication

Key Takeaways

  • •If a government or official group puts out laws or rules online, they have to make sure it's the real, unchanged version.
  • •They must give people a way to check that what they're reading is exactly what was officially published, with no sneaky changes.
  • •This is like a digital stamp or seal to prove the online law is the real deal.

Example

You go to a government website to read a new traffic law about speeding tickets.

The website must have a way for you to check that the law you're reading is the exact same one the government officially put out—no one messed with it or changed the rules.
