§ 10241 Judicial Measure Preparation

Key Takeaways

  • •If a judge has an idea for a new law, they can tell the Legislative Counsel about it.
  • •The Legislative Counsel writes up the idea as a possible new law.
  • •This written idea is then sent to the leaders of the judiciary committees in the Legislature.
  • •This happens during the next meeting of the Legislature.

Example

A judge notices that many people are having problems with a certain rule in court and thinks a new law could help fix it.

The judge tells the Legislative Counsel about the problem and their idea for a new law. The Legislative Counsel writes it up and sends it to the leaders of the judiciary committees. Then, the leaders can decide if they want to make it into a real law.
