§ 8236 Vessel Permit Renewal Notice

Key Takeaways

  • •The government sends a letter to boat owners before March 1 to remind them to renew their boat permit.
  • •The letter tells them how to renew the permit and what happens if they don’t.
  • •Even if you don’t get the letter, you still have to renew your permit on time.

Example

If you own a fishing boat and the government sends you a renewal notice in February, but you forget to renew your permit by the deadline, you could get in trouble even if you never got the letter.

The law says you must renew your boat permit every year, even if you don’t receive the reminder letter. It’s your job to remember.
