§ 1812 Family Court Case Transfer

This law lets a judge in family court move a case to another judge if it helps speed things up or makes sure the case gets handled faster.

Key Takeaways

  • •A family court judge can move a case to another judge if it helps things go faster.
  • •The new judge will handle the case just like the original family court judge would.
  • •This is only done if the first judge thinks it’s needed to speed things up.

Example

A couple is fighting over who gets to keep their dog after a breakup.

If the family court judge is too busy, they can send the case to another judge to decide faster.
