§ 1802 Domestic Relations Court Procedures

This law lets judges in some counties decide if they need special rules for family cases, like divorces or child custody, based on how many cases they have and the local situation.

Key Takeaways

  • •This law only applies in counties where judges think they need extra help with family cases.
  • •Judges decide every January if they want to use these special rules.
  • •In small counties, one judge decides. In bigger counties, most of the judges have to agree.

Example

A county has a lot of divorce cases and not enough time to handle them all fairly.

The judges in that county can vote every January to use special rules to make sure these cases get the attention they need.
