§ 1502 Marital Property Agreement Recording

This law says that if you and your partner sign a special agreement about money or property before or during marriage, you can officially record it like you would for a house sale. This makes it public and official.

Key Takeaways

  • •You can record agreements about money or property before or during marriage.
  • •Recording it makes it official, like a house sale.
  • •If you don’t record it, it’s like not recording a house sale—it’s still valid but not public.

Example

Before getting married, you and your partner sign a paper saying who gets the house if you split up.

You can take that paper to the county office and record it, just like when you buy a house. This way, everyone knows it’s official.
