§ 77812 Date Handler Referendum Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law only starts working if enough people vote 'yes' in a special vote.
  • •At least 40% of the people who handle dates must vote.
  • •For the law to pass, either: 65% of voters say 'yes' AND those voters handled more than half of all dates last year, OR most voters say 'yes' AND those voters handled 65% of all dates last year.

Example

Imagine a group of farmers who grow and sell dates. They need to decide if a new rule about selling dates should start.

The rule only starts if at least 40% of the farmers vote. Then, either 65% of the voters must agree AND those voters sold more than half of all dates last year, OR most voters agree AND those voters sold 65% of all dates last year.
