§ 76312 Wool Producer Referendum Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •This law only starts working if enough wool producers vote 'yes' in a special vote.
  • •At least 40% of all wool producers must join the vote.
  • •Either 65% of voters say 'yes' AND those voters sold more than half of last year's wool, OR most voters say 'yes' AND those voters sold at least 65% of last year's wool.

Example

Imagine 100 wool producers in California. Only 50 of them vote in a special election.

The law won't start unless at least 40 producers vote. If 33 of those 50 voters (65%) say 'yes' AND those 33 sold more than half of all wool last year, the law starts. Or, if 26 voters (more than half) say 'yes' AND those 26 sold at least 65% of last year's wool, the law also starts.
