§ 7405 Broomrape Board Definitions

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines special words used in rules about tomatoes in California.
  • •It lists areas called 'districts' where tomato rules apply.
  • •A 'handler' is someone who gets tomatoes from farmers and gets them ready for things like sauce or canning.
  • •A 'producer' is a farmer who grows tomatoes to sell for processing.

Example

A farmer in Fresno grows tomatoes to sell to a company that makes ketchup.

The farmer is a 'producer' because they grow tomatoes for selling. The ketchup company is a 'handler' because they take the tomatoes and turn them into ketchup. Fresno is in District 3, so the rules for that area apply to them.
