§ 38952 Milk Product Labeling Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Any fake milk product (like almond milk or soy milk) must have a label with the name and address of who made it or sold it.
  • •If the address isn’t where it was made or packed, the label must also have a special code showing the state and plant number.
  • •The label must clearly say what the product is called, like 'Imitation Milk' or 'Nondairy Product,' right before listing the ingredients.
  • •The government can add more rules later if they think it’s important for people to know.

Example

You buy a carton of 'Almond Drink' from the store.

The carton must say who made it and where. If it wasn’t made at the address on the label, it needs a special code like 'CA-123' to show where it was really made. It must also say 'Nondairy Product' right before listing ingredients like almonds and water.
