§ 29451 Honey Labeling Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Only real honey made by bees can be called 'honey' on the label.
  • •You can't call fake honey 'honey' or even 'imitation honey'.
  • •If it's not made by bees, it can't look or sound like honey on the label.

Example

A store sells a sweet syrup made from sugar and water, but the label says 'Honey-Flavored Syrup'.

This is okay because it doesn't call itself 'honey' or 'imitation honey'. It just says it tastes like honey.
