§ 29126 Bee Disease Inspection Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Bees or bee stuff brought into California can be checked for diseases within 30 days of arriving.
  • •If the bees or bee stuff are sick, they can be held by the inspector, and the owner will be told.
  • •If more than 2% of the bees have a disease called American foulbrood, they must be sent back to where they came from.

Example

A beekeeper brings 100 beehives into California from another state.

If inspectors find that 3 of those hives have American foulbrood disease (which is more than 2%), the whole shipment must be sent back. The beekeeper can't keep them in California.
