§ 29122 Bee Shipment Certificate Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Bees and bee stuff moving into California need a special paper signed by a bee expert from where they came from.
  • •The paper must say who owns the bees, where they're going, and how many bees or hives are being moved.
  • •The bees must be checked for bad bugs, and if they have a sickness called American foulbrood, the sick bees must be destroyed or moved away before they can come to California.

Example

A beekeeper in Texas wants to sell some hives to a farmer in California.

Before the hives can be sent, a Texas bee expert must check them for bad bugs and sickness. If any bees are sick with American foulbrood, those bees must be destroyed or moved away. Then, the expert signs a paper saying the bees are healthy and lists all the details about the hives and where they're going. Without this paper, the hives can't be sent to California.
