§ 27555 Egg Label Verification Fees

Key Takeaways

  • •If you sell eggs and put special words on the carton (like 'farm-fresh' or 'organic'), you might have to pay an extra fee.
  • •This fee pays for lab tests to check if the words on the egg carton are true.
  • •The fee also helps keep checking eggs to make sure they still match the words on the carton.

Example

A farm sells eggs with the label 'free-range' on the carton.

The farm may have to pay a fee so the government can test the eggs and make sure they really are from free-range chickens. If the eggs don’t match the label, the farm could get in trouble.
