§ 24712 Poultry Inspection Exemptions

• •This law is about chicken meat that comes from another state.
• •If the chicken meat was checked for cleanliness in another state, and that state’s rules are as good as California’s, then California’s rules don’t apply.
• •But if the chicken is packed, repacked, or cut up in California (except in a store or restaurant), it must be done in a place that has a California license.

A grocery store in California sells chicken that was checked for cleanliness in Oregon.

If Oregon’s cleanliness rules are as good as California’s, then the chicken doesn’t need to be checked again in California. But if the store cuts up the chicken in California, it has to do it in a place that has a California license.
