§ 18976 Overtime Meat Inspection Costs

Key Takeaways

  • •If a meat or poultry plant works extra hours or on holidays, they must pay extra for the inspectors.
  • •The plant owner has to cover the inspectors' overtime pay and other costs.
  • •This only applies to plants that are already licensed by the state.
  • •The extra pay is decided by the state, not the plant owner.

Example

A chicken processing plant wants to work on Thanksgiving Day to meet a big order.

The plant must pay the state inspectors extra money for working on the holiday. The state decides how much extra the plant has to pay.
