§ 18734 Livestock And Poultry Registration

This law requires certain businesses that handle dead or sick livestock or poultry in intrastate commerce to register their name, business address, and any trade names with the director.

Key Takeaways

  • •Businesses that buy, sell, or transport dead, dying, disabled, or diseased livestock or poultry must register.
  • •Registration must include the business name, address of each location, and any trade names.
  • •The rule applies to brokers, renderers, animal food manufacturers, wholesalers, and public warehousemen of livestock or poultry products.

Example

A local meat processing plant that buys dead cows from farmers and sells the meat to grocery stores must register with the state director, listing its business address and any other names it uses.

Because the plant buys and transports dead livestock for sale within the state, it falls under the law and must file the required registration information.
