§ 11904 Certificate Renewal Deadlines

• •All certificates end on December 31 of the year they’re issued for.
• •You can renew any time before that date by using the director‑approved form and paying the set fee.
• •If you apply for renewal after the certificate has expired, a penalty will be added.

A restaurant’s health permit says it’s good through December 31, 2023. The owner fills out the renewal form and pays the fee in November 2023, so the permit stays active. If the owner waits until January 2024 to apply, the director adds a penalty to the renewal.

Because the permit expires at the end of the year, renewing early keeps it valid. Renewing after the expiration date triggers an extra charge.
