§ 7639 Party National Affiliation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •The American Independent Party in the state must officially pick a national group to be part of.
  • •They have to write it down in a rule or a special paper and give a copy to the Secretary of State.
  • •If people argue about which national group they belong to, the most recent paper they filed is the one that counts.

Example

Imagine the American Independent Party in California decides to join a big national party group, like how a local club joins a big national club.

They have to write it down in their club rules and send a copy to the Secretary of State. If later some people say, 'No, we’re part of a different big club!', the Secretary of State will look at the most recent paper they filed to decide which big club they really belong to.
